Apply for an extension of stay in Mongolia

 

To the attention of foreign nationals and the inviting party: 

 

  • According to Article 19.2 of the Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals and Article 9.1 of the “Mongolian Visa Issuance Regulation” approved by the Government Resolution No. 192 of 2021, a temporary visitor or a foreign national who has arrived in Mongolia without a visa in accordance with an international agreement on mutual travel conditions may extend his/her stay in Mongolia once for up to 30 days.

 

List of documents to be submitted:

 

  • Inviter’s official letter citing grounds for extension (application, if the inviter is individual)
  • 1 photo
  • Application form
  • Passport
  • Receipt of payment 

 

If the documents are being submitted online:

 

  • Inviter’s official letter citing grounds for extension (application, if the inviter is individual)
  • Photo or copy of passport’s personal information page
  • Mongolian visa
  • Entry stamp
  • Receipt of payment 

 

Notice

 

  • A temporary visitor may apply for an extension of his/her stay in Mongolia at least 5 working days prior to the expiration of the visa.

  • A temporary visitor may request extension 90 days after the expiration of the previous extension

  • Visa of temporary visitors who violated the Law on the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals and has received penalties under the Law on Infringement, will not be extended.

  • The date of visa extension for foreign nationals shall be marked as "Registered" and the date of expiration of the visa shall be marked "Until".

  • If you have applied for an extension of stay online, you can get an extension mark at the border checkpoint or at the nearest IAM office or local branch office or senior specialist in the aimag.
